My Approach

I named my practice Lotus Therapy Services because the gorgeous, bright pink lotus flower grows out of mud.  Its explosive beauty emerges from muck.  We marvel at the layers of bursting magentas and pastel pinks sitting gingerly atop those supportive, confident lily pads.  What we don’t see are the twisted, slimy branches below, churning with floaty lake debris.  Caught up in the brightness, we don’t quite remember the dark, murky source.

I believe that humans in therapy are similar.  Our transformation arises out of our struggle.  The path to liberation is downward and inward towards the dark and difficult.  But we don’t stay there.  Our universal, inherent path is upward—out of the muck and into the light---towards inner brightness, peace and healing. My mission as a therapist is to create a completely non-judgmental, loving container in which this transformation unfolds.

You are not broken; you are hurt.  You are not bad; bad things happened you. You are not your symptoms, your diagnosis, your trauma, pain or suffering. You are not the mud. I believe that in each of us resides a marvelous, pure, all-loving essence that is the home base of our healing. This is you. You are the lotus.

I believe in healing, not coping.  Symptom management sells our potential short.  The lotus flower doesn’t symbolize merely “getting by”; it stands for a radiant, bold existence.   I believe in your innate and powerful capacity to transform your own life.  The wisest, most loving, connected and confident version of yourself is within you, always, and has the unending ability to heal.  The way you feel, think and act in the world can be transformed.

I use a therapeutic approach called Internal Family Systems (IFS).  This evidence-based model functions from the basic premise that we are all made up of parts, some of which are deeply wounded, and others that are protective of the wounded ones.  I support you in gaining awareness of your parts (your internal system), and connecting your parts to that all-loving, divine essence that is you.  In that connection lies your healing.

"No mud. No lotus."
